Logo versions vary depending on its size and details

Logo has protected areas

A protected area is a space around the logo which should not contain any layout elements. This rule is also used for logo placed on a tinted area or on the edge of a format.

Main colours

The corporate style colours are a combination of bright basic colours and neutral grey. Each of the three basic colours has lighter shades used in infographics and gradients. In most cases, the text is black (printed matter, printed and electronic multipage publications). Additional dark grey-coloured text is used for representative printed matter (business cards, diplomas, advertisements).

Logo on photos

According to photo style, the logo is always placed in the upper part of an image, in the sky area. The logo should be placed on a clear, but not so light area. When selecting images one should ensure clear areas available, including through retouching (for example, using the gradient filter for toning the sky or removing high contrast clouds and other background elements).

To improve legibility and preclude ambiguity, the sign and the rules of its usage together with the name have been updated in the new Bank of Russia logo. Now the sign and the name cannot stand separately.

Since 2015, the Bank of Russia has been using an updated logo created as part of the project aimed at establishing and developing the Bank of Russia corporate style. Different logo arrangements have been designed depending on the context and usage environment.

Bank of Russia notes and coins feature its official emblem: the image of a two-headed eagle and a semicircular inscription ‘BANK OF RUSSIA’. In 1992, when no national symbols of the Russian Federation were yet adopted, this emblem was placed on the obverse side of new coins approved by Resolution of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Russian Federation No. 3352-1, dated 17 July 1992, ‘On the Issuance of New Coins’. Starting from 1995, this emblem has been placed on Bank of Russia notes as well./p>

In 2001, the Bank of Russia emblem was put on the State Heraldic Register of the Russian Federation under No. 687 in accordance with the established procedure.

The eagle image on the Bank of Russia emblem is slightly different from the one made in 1917 by Ivan Bilibin for the state symbol of the Russian Provisional Government.

The Bank of Russia’s usage of its own emblem to decorate its notes and coins does not violate any Russian laws. Article 7 of Federal Constitutional Law No. 2-FKZ, dated 25 December 2000, ‘On the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation’, stipulates that the Russian national coat of arms may be placed on notes and coins, therefore such placement is not obligatory.

Starting from 2016, the national coat of arms of the Russian Federation has been placed on the obverse side of coins instead of the Bank of Russia emblem. The Russian national coat of arms is placed on the front side of 200- and 2,000-ruble notes and on the commemorative note dedicated to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
