I need to extend the default AsyncPostBackTimeout property for the AJAX Scriptmanager because I am forever getting timeout error messages appearing when creating child portals (I have somewhere in the region of 200 child portals!).
The timeout occurs during the ClearHostCache process.
To do this I have had to amend the core code - I have chosen to add this property in the Library\components\Skin\Skin.vb file just after it adds the EnablePartialRendering property.
I REALLY don't like this for two reasons:
I am not sure this is the correct place to do it?
I really don't want to be amending the Core Code as these changes are bound to get lost in a future upgrade
SO, is there a better place to do this?
If so, can someone please tell me where to do it and more importantly HOW to do it?

no, it's not possible to set it via the web.config, so you need to do a core edit

With the new versions of DNN (v5 ->) can this timeout property now be changed without having to amend core code?
I also want to extend the DB timeout length via the web.config file to try and cater for the issue I have with timeouts occurring during the creation of child portals (see this thread for more details -

)
Would doing this have any damaging affect to the rest of my site?
Any good reason
NOT
to change the timeout durations?
Any advice would be most gratefully received!

I am still looking for some advice -
Any good reason
NOT
to change the timeout durations (DB & AJAX)?
I am thinking that perhaps I only change these timeout durations when I am installing new modules or creating new child portals?
My production site has now become utterly ridiculous in that I cannot even install new modules on the site becuase I am getting timeout errors halfway through the installation and therefore the installation is not completely properly and it brings the whole site down.
