Welcome to the latest episode of our weekly roundup of news from the TV and film industry.
This week we are featuring the newly announced Sony HXC-FZ90 HD/4K studio camera system, the new Laowa Ranger Cine Zoom lenses, and the latest AtomOS 10.92 firmware update for Ninja V/V+ and Shogun Connect.
Sony HXC-FZ90 4K System Camera
Sony has just announced a new cost-effective system camera option for live productions looking to upgrade from HD to 4K. The
Sony HXC-FZ90 Systems Camera
features a 2/3" 4K CMOS sensor and a B4 mount allowing HD productions to upgrade to 4K with weekly, monthly, and permanent 4K licenses without the need for any hardware changes. This is perfect for live production companies and broadcasters, who predominantly do HD work, but are looking for an entry into 4K live productions. The camera also comes with built-in HLG and S-Log3 support for SR Live workflow making it suitable for 4K HDR capture and delivery. A 4K output directly from the camera is also supported via 12G-SDI, which also makes it possible to operate wirelessly and record directly with the third party accessories.
Laowa Ranger Cine Zooms
Budget cine lens maker Laowa has officially announced the
Ranger Compact Cine Zoom
lenses. The set currently includes the new
Ranger 28-75mm T2.9 and 75-180mm T2.9 cine zooms
, and a wider 16-30mm option is said to join the range in the near future. The lenses offer full-frame coverage and will be supplied with ARRI PL mount as standard alongside a swappable Canon EF mount. Other user-interchangeable lens mount options include Canon RF, Sony, Nikon Z, and Leica L. The Ranger cine zooms also boast a parfocal design, which holds focus as you zoom in and out, and they weigh just under 1.5 kg, making them some of lightweight cine zooms in their class.
AtomOS 10.92 Firmware Update
Atomos has released a new firmware update version 10.92.00 for Ninja V/V+ and Shogun Connect. With this firmware update users get support for ProRes RAW recording up to 5.9Kp/30 via HDMI from the Panasonic S5II and Panasonic S5IIX, and up to 6.2Kp/30 from the Fujifilm X-S20. The firmware also brings new anamorphic de-squeeze monitoring modes for 1.6x, 1.65x and 1.79x squeeze factors, expanding support for a wider range of anamorphic lenses.
AtomOS 10.92.00
also brings upgrades to AirGlu RF and AirGlu BT, enabling the paring of Shogun Connect and Ninja V/V+ with Atomos Connect to a maximum of two AirGlu BT Bluetooth-enabled devices.
