Bibiloni posted a video on Twitter of the unnamed woman, who said she was a manager. In the video, she said "supposedly if you are wearing a mask, it's because you're contaminated."
Bibiloni said this was not the case. He was wearing the mask to protect himself from possibly being infected by the virus because he has liver and kidney problems, he told The Arizona Republic. He said the employee was handling food without any masks or gloves.
On Friday, the Trump administration advised people to start wearing face masks
in public to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, per CDC recommendations.
"I told her, don't you know what is going on with the pandemic? The government said to wear masks and gloves," Bibiloni told The Arizona Republic. "I wasn't going to take a chance and take it (the mask) off ... so I left without a money order because she refused to give me service."
He said he and his wife have gone to Walmart and other stores with masks and gloves on and have not experienced any problems.
Circle K issued this statement to The Arizona Republic:
"At Circle K, the health and safety of our customers and employees is our priority, and we have been working closely with our store managers and employees to ensure our stores continue to be a safe place for their daily needs. As the federal, state, and local policies around wearing face coverings in public has been fluid, and the new recommendation by the CDC was just issued on Friday, we have updated our internal guidelines for employees and customers regarding protective masks and have provided that information to our stores. We are also in the process of providing non-N95 respiratory masks to our store employees, who now have the option of wearing them."
