The Latin-SEQ project
” featuring Dr Ana Topf from Newcastle University in the UK.
Next generation sequencing (NGS) has revolutionised the diagnostic process for patients with neuromuscular diseases (NMD). However, access to sequencing technologies in less developed regions, such as Latin American countries is not only limited, but also extremely variable.
Latin-SEQ is a consortium of neuromuscular units from Latin American countries focused on diagnostics, basic research and training in the NMD field.
About the speaker
Dr Ana Topf is a Senior Research Associate at the John Walton Muscular Dystrophy Research Centre in the UK, where she coordinates the Next Generation Sequencing projects. She is a Molecular Biologist by training and has over 15 years’ experience in the analysis and interpretation of -omics data for rare diseases, particularly neuromuscular and neurodevelopmental conditions. Throughout her career in the NMD field, Dr Topf has co-authored +100 publications, including the discovery of new disease genes and pathomechanisms, and a novel digenic model for a congenital skeletal myopathy.
About DNA dialogue
With the wealth of genomic expertise internationally, this seminar series is a forum for members of the genomics community in Australia and beyond to learn of new developments in health genomics, and the overseas experience.
The topics are diverse, including data sharing, ethics, carrier screening, cancer genomics, genomics in emerging health systems, and more.
