Hi,
Can you mix and match Unifi UAPs models in the same environment (wifi 5) ?
UAP-AC-PRO, UAP-AC-HD....
Any pros & cons for the above setup.
I'm sure if its a new building we wanted to keep all of the same model so its all consistent, but in case you are planning to add more APs and if we want to go with a newer models , then in this situation can you mix and match different models ?
2) Can you mix and match Wifi 5 and Wifi 6 UAPs in the same network ?
I see the newer Unifi 6 UAPs coming in the market, if we want to add them to our current existing UAP-AC-HD is that good ?
Please share your recommendations. Thanks for your time.

Vendor specific issues aside (I'm not able to speak to how Ubiquiti specifically will handle mixing), a general point is if you mix two types of APs like that, do you care which user ends up on which AP?
Depending on all kinds of factors, wifi6 has the potential to be faster but you can't be sure that wifi6 capable clients always connect to that type of AP. They might see wifi5 AP as a stronger signal and end up using that, instead and you could, in theory, miss out on performance.
One way to address this is by using multiple SSIDs where you only configure one SSID on one type of AP therefore giving users the choice to connect to "Company Wifi5" or "Company Wifi6".
I have done this similar "trick" with 2.4 GHz vs. 5 GHz. When a device sees both types of APs they often latch on to the 2.4 one if it's showing stronger signal but the 5 GHz would actually still perform better. By having two SSIDs you can force a specific type of radio vs. having to tell users to find a way to turn one off on their phone (often you can't).

The AP 1m to my left is configured exactly this way, so when I'm doing some testing, I have a simple job to choose if I want to connect via 2,4 or 5 GHz .
Yes. I have 802.11n and 802.11ax (WiFi6) access points mixed at several of our locations using the EnGenius Cloud based Controller. It works amazing. I don't know what the other manufacturers are doing, but yes Engenius 802.11ax, 802.11ac and 802.11ax are all cloud based and can be used together at the same locations.
