Since its founding in 1979, The Skin Cancer Foundation sets the standard for educating the public and the medical profession about skin cancer, its prevention by means of sun protection, and the need for early detection and prompt, effective treatment. We are the only global organization devoted solely to combating the world’s most common cancer, now occurring at epidemic levels.
Summertime is the best time to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. Be sure to bring your sunscreen to protect your skin from sun damage that causes skin aging and can lead to skin cancers. Our June newsletter offers lots of information about sunscreen, how to protect our little ones in the sun and more. Check it out!

As a kid, Cassidy just wanted to have fun with her friends and get tan. She never thought it would lead to 30 basal cell carcinomas. Her Mohs surgeon and his trainee want to tell her story as a cautionary tale.

Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare, aggressive form of skin cancer with a high risk for returning (recurring) and spreading (metastasizing), often within two to three years after initial diagnosis. How rare is it? Approximately 3,000 new cases of Merkel cell skin cancer are diagnosed annually in the U.S. About 40 percent of cases recur.

“Precancerous” is a scary word, but not as scary as the “c” word. If you heard it from your doctor, you’d want to make sure it was diagnosed and treated before it could develop further, right?
As a dermatologist and Mohs surgeon, Deborah S. Sarnoff, MD, is an expert on precancerous lesions called actinic keratoses (AKs). In her 35-plus years of practice in New York City and Long Island, she has probably seen tens of thousands of these problematic patches on the skin of her patients. Here’s what she wants you to know.

The Champions for Change Gala was an evening to remember! Our signature fundraising event took place on May 14 at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City. Together, we raised awareness about the dangers of skin cancer, and raised more than $800,000 to support skin cancer educational campaigns, community programs and research initiatives. A heartfelt "thank you" to our Gala committee, our donors and sponsors and all who made this wonderful evening possible. More info:

This morning, The Skin Cancer Foundation held its annual Partner Summit, bringing together stakeholders and industry leaders together to talk about skin cancer prevention and sun protection education.
Tyler Steele of La Roche-Posay/CeraVe/Vichy kicked the day off with an inspiring keynote on the Power of Corporate Philanthropy. Steven Q. Wang, MD, the chair of our Photobiology Committee, shared recent updates we’ve made to the Seal of Recommendation and why they are important.
L’Oreal Dermatological Beauty’s Meg Gomsak shared insights into SPF and the consumer decision journey. And an expert panel explored ways to educate hidden populations on skin cancer awareness and means of prevention.
A big thank you to our panelists and speakers for lending their expertise to help make the Summit a success. Watch this space for information on future Skin Cancer Foundation Partner Summits.
