For lack of a better area, i figured this was a close as I could find to post, since we seem to have thousands of areas to post in here..
Our company is finally wanting to go 3D in plant design. We are in week one of figuring out what to do. Our parent company is 9 hours away and uses a 3D package thats an add on to AutoCAD called CADWorx ( www.coade.com ) Plant that does piping, and very limited steel. The steel options are there, but, not the detail, such as connections, etc. It only shows the coped beam, etc.
Do you know of an Autodesk or AutoCAD add on that does steel well in 3d? Revit Structure looks great, but i'm not seeing that it adds in bolted/welded connection info, but i'm only running the trial right now, so I was hoping someone out there can give me some guidance on what they recommend or use so we have somewhere to start.
Thanks all U could use AutoCAD Structural Detailing, that come with the RST Suite
It handle very well the model from RST and had a lot off tools to create conections , both bolted our welded, than at final it create great shop drawings.
To the piping part of the project maybe try AutoCAD P&ID take a look at that.
or even Revit MEP, depends of some issue from your work to choose the write tool. One of the Revit flavors might be your best bet, but virtually anything that does steel design to that level of detail will be overkill for piping design. We use ProSteel for most of our work, although the supervisors are pushing to do more of the easier projects with CADWorx. There is also a more advance steel package available from COADE, which you should take a look at as well.

For Architectural consider:
Autocad Architecture.

Revit.
For P&ID:
Autocad P&ID.

Using the right combination of products can provide the additional benefit of direct share of 3d model data with manufacturing, thus reducing the production of 2d drawing deliverables to convey design intent.
