The Center for East Asian Studies at Stanford University is pleased to offer a postdoctoral fellowship in Chinese Studies for the 2017-18 academic year. This award is open to scholars in the humanities and social sciences studying any historical period. The fellowship will begin September 1, 2017 and end August 31, 2018, with a 12-month stipend of approximately $60,000. Fellows are required to be in residence in the Stanford area during the appointment period; to teach one course during the academic year; and to participate in all regular Center activities. Stanford University Press will have first right of refusal for manuscripts produced during the postdoctoral appointment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must have been awarded their Ph.D. no later than August 31 the year in which the fellowship begins, and may not be more than four years beyond receipt of the doctoral degree at the start of their fellowship.
In addition to non-affiliated PhD's, this fellowship may be awarded to those who hold continuing, assistant professor-level teaching positions, if they meet other application qualifications.
U.S. citizenship is not required.
Those who have received their Ph.D. from Stanford University will not normally be considered.

2) Research statement for the year of appointment (max. 5-page double-spaced)

4) Two letters of recommendation

World History Studies (WHS) is sponsored by the Institute of World History, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in cooperation with the Social Sciences Academic Press. The journal is biannual and will be globally circulated. WHS encourages academic innovation and publishes articles and reviews reflecting the latest achievements of domestic and foreign historical scholarship.
It is designed to build a new platform for academic exchanges between Chinese historians and their international counterparts.
WHS publishes papers on world history mainly by Chinese experts, but also welcomes contributions by international historians. The contents of issues are divided into the following sections, 1) the history of individual countries and regions, 2) ancient and medieval civilizations, 3) global history, 4) history of international relations, 5) China and the world in historical context, 6) review of scholarship of world history studies in China, 7) review of the latest Chinese monographs on world history, 8) introduction of influential Chinese and occassionally foreign historians of world history in a comparative perspective. We warmly welcome historians around the world to contribute articles or recommend related academic topics. WHS operates on a system of peer review. It is suggested that articles should be written in English in line with international academic standards.
I Categories of Submissions There are generally four types of submissions to WHS, 1) articles, 2) pathfinders, 3) review articles, and 4) book reviews. In most cases, the first three types should be no more than 12,000 words. There should be an abstract of no more than 200 words and up to 5 keywords on the page immediately after the title page for articles. The book review should be in the range of 1,200-2,000 words.
II Format All articles to be published in WHS should be formatted as Microsoft Word documents, 1.5 line-spaced with ample margins, in 12 point size and Times New Roman font. All pages, including diagrams and tables, should be numbered consecutively. The footnotes should be in 10 point size and Times New Roman font. Authors are responsible for obtaining permissions and resolving any copyright restrictions before publication of their contribution.
III Citation Style and Reference List Authors are encouraged to consult the complete style guide for full details of cite references in the text at: http://iwh.cssn.cn/xsqk/xsqk_world_history_ studies/.
IV Submission Articles should be original and not under review by any other publication. Please send your contribution to the editorial office of WHS via email at [email protected]. At the end of the article, please attach a separate brief bio of the author, indicating the author’s name, institutional affiliation, title(s), research area, major publication (if any), detailed address and contact telephone.
V Internet Access The full texts of all articles in World History Studies can be downloaded freely six months after publication at http://www.nssd.org/journal/cn/72130x/(National Social Sciences Database, NSSD, 國家哲學社會科學學術期刊數據庫) and http://iwh.cssn.cn/xsqk/xsqk_ world_history_studies/ (World History Research of China, 中國世界史研究網). NSSD is open freely to all the readers across the world. There is also no charge for the authors to publish any paper in World History Studies.
