Any thoughts on what is causing this?
              
Based on paths I assume you’re on Linux. Recommended way is to build the env on your own. The installation first has an issue with building a wxpython wheel and this is where I also encountered an issue when trying to install from the file on Ubuntu. If you just build the env yourself (not much more work) and find a specific wheel to your OS it should be fine.
