I have FileBot installed as a Windows 10 app from the app store. My BitTorrent client is set to automatically run FB after a download completes, calling FB to rename/move the file and importing it into the Plex library.
My latest download didn't do that, so I launched FB to manually rename/move the file. FB didn't appear. When I try to run it, the following appears in the Event log:

I assume I should reinstall FB, but first want to export its settings and formats. Here's what happens in the command line. I thought maybe I needed to be inside the FB directory (second command), but that doesn't work either.
Code:
Select all
C:\Users\Charles\Documents>filebot -script fn:preferences --output .
The system cannot execute the specified program.
C:\Users\Charles\Documents>cd "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\AppRepository\Packages\PointPlanck.FileBot_4.8.4.0_x64__49ex9gnthnt12"
Access is denied.
How can I run FB from the command line to safeguard my settings and formats, given the above output? Thanks.
If the command-line tool works, then you can import / export settings like this:
Regardless of application, user settings are always found in your user app data folder, and never in the install folder, since applications themselves usually can't write-access their own install folder without admin permissions:
This folder is managed by the UWP runtime though. If you copy everything you might be able to restore the settings, but I'm not sure. There should be a "virtual registry" file somewhere which stores registry entries / settings for UWP apps.
The command-line tool doesn't work, as documented above.
In C:\Users\Charles\AppData\Local\Packages\PointPlanck.FileBot_49ex9gnthnt12\LocalCache\Roaming\FileBot , I found the following in the preferences.backup.xml file:
Code:
Select all
<node name="net">
<node name="filebot">
<entry key="dialog.open.folder" value="D:\Charles\Downloads\~Torrent (completed)\BBC Call the Midwife S07E07 4th Mar 2018 HD 1920x1080 (Deep61) [WWRG]"/>
<entry key="getting.started" value="1"/>
<node name="ui">
<entry key="panel.selected" value="0"/>
<entry key="window.x" value="749"/>
<entry key="window.y" value="0"/>
<entry key="window.width" value="1178"/>
<entry key="window.height" value="823"/>
<node name="episodelist">
<node name="language.favorites">
</node>
</node>
<node name="rename">
<entry key="dialog.select.repeat" value="false"/>
<entry key="dialog.select.width" value="824"/>
<entry key="dialog.select.height" value="541"/>
<node name="format.recent.episode">
<entry key="0" value="M:/TV SHOWS/{plex}"/>
</node>
<node name="format.recent.movie">
<entry key="0" value="M:/{plex}"/>
</node>
<node name="presets">
<entry key="My Preset" value="{"@type":"net.filebot.ui.rename.Preset","name":"My Preset","path":null,"includes":null,"format":"M:/{plex}","database":"TheTVDB","sortOrder":"Airdate","matchMode":"Opportunistic","language":"en","action":"MOVE"}"/>
<entry key="Movies → M:" value="{"@type":"net.filebot.ui.rename.Preset","name":"Movies → M:","path":null,"includes":null,"format":"M:/{plex}","database":"TheMovieDB","sortOrder":null,"matchMode":"Opportunistic","language":"en","action":"MOVE"}"/>
</node>
</node>
<node name="subtitle">
<node name="language.favorites">
</node>
</node>
</node>
</node>
</node>
This gives me enough information to be able to recreate my preferred formats for movies and TV shows, should the preferences be wiped out when I reinstall FileBot.
