学域介绍

在当今数字时代，随着创新技术的发展，数据处理正以前所未有的步伐向前迈进。各行各业的企业与公司利用数据信息创造商业价值，数据驱动的世界蕴藏了海量的可能性与机遇。作为数字化革新的一个颠覆性成果，数据科学与分析已经成为一个方兴未艾并展示出跨学科融合趋势的领域，涵盖了对计算机科学、统计学、数学等跨领域的知识与技能需求。依托港科大师资力量在大数据与数据科学所取得的科研基础，以及大数据科技理学硕士(MSc BDT) 课程的成功，香港科技大学（广州）信息枢纽辖下的数据科学与分析学域将通过与其他院系的合作，提供数据科学与分析的哲学博士课程。

自2019年始，数据科学与分析学域已通过港科大广州先导计划在香港清水湾校园招收了3批近50名研究型硕士与博士生，是港科大（广州）招生规模最大的学域之一。数据科学与分析学域目前在读研究生来自国内外知名学府，如哥伦比亚大学，波士顿大学，伦敦大学学院，康奈尔大学，北京大学，复旦大学、中国人民大学、中国科学技术大学等。 我们欢迎有计算机、科学和工程等相关背景的学生加入！

培养目标

数据科学与分析学域的哲学博士课程将通过数据处理与分析相关课程的学习，促进统计分析、逻辑推理与计算机智能的融合。该课程所提供的严谨的研究训练让学生成为知识广博的研究者，日后在学术研究或工业界应用领域上均能灵活地使用逻辑、数学、算法与算力来验证与分析数据，从而提供良好的洞见来作出更睿智的决策。

我们将培养学生成为学界、商界与工业界的数据科学与分析精英。除了可任职于学界外，毕业生也可以成为数据科学与分析行业的数据分析师，或成为公立/私营部门的数据科学家。 在可预见的未来，本专业所培养出的数据科学与分析领域的人才将炙手可热。

Lei Chen  is Chair Professor at HKUST and Acting Head of the Data Science and Analytics Thrust. He received his BS degree in Computer Science at Tian Jin University ,P.R.China(BS 94), and an MA degree in computer science at Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) Asian Institute of Technology (MS 97). He received a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science at University of Waterloo. Lei Chen is an IEEE Fellow and ACM Distinguished Scientist.

Professor Fugee Tsung is Chair Professor at HKUST and Acting Dean of the Information Hub at HKUST(GZ). He received both his PhD and MSc in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Prof. Tsung is also the Director of the Quality and Data Analytics Lab, and former Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Quality Technology (JQT). Based on his pioneering contribution to Quality Analytics research and education, he has been elected Academician of the International Academy for Quality (IAQ), Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA), Fellow of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), Fellow of the American Society for Quality (ASQ), Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute (ISI), and Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE). His research interests include industrial big data and quality analytics. He has authored over 170 refereed journal publications and received IISE Transactions' Best Paper Award three times, in 2004, 2009, and 2018, respectively.

Xiaofang ZHOU

Dr Xiaofang Zhou is Otto Poon Professor of Engineering and Chair Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at HKUST. From 2006 to 2020, he was a Professor of Computer Science at The University of Queensland, Head of Data and Knowledge Engineering (DKE) research group, and Leader of Data Science Discipline. Under his leadership, UQ DKE/Data Science discipline received 5 out of 5 ranking in the Australian Research Council's research quality assessment for three consecutive rounds (ERA 2012, 2015, 2018). Before joining UQ in 1999, he worked as a Senior Research Scientist in the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), leading its Spatial Information Systems group. Xiaofang received his BSc and MSc degrees in Computer Science from Nanjing University in 1984 and 1987 respectively, and PhD in Computer Science from UQ in 1994. He is a Fellow of IEEE.

Xiaowen CHU

Dr. Chu received his B.Eng. degree in the Computer Science from Tsinghua University, Beijing, P. R. China, in 1999, and the Ph.D. degree in the Computer Science from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2003. He is a full  profeesor in the Data Science and Analytics Thrust, Information Hub in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou).He was a professor in the Department of Computer Science, Hong Kong Baptist University. He was serving as the Director of the High Performance Cluster Computing Centre of HKBU, the Director of Blockchain and Fintech Laboratory, and the Director of High Performance Machine Learning Laboratory. He is a senior member of IEEE and a member of ACM. He is a vice-chairman of the Blockchain Technical Committee of China Institute of Communications.

His current research interests include GPU Computing, Parallel and Distributed Computing, Cloud Computing, and Wireless Networks. He is especially interested in the modelling, parallel algorithm design, application optimization, and energy efficiency of GPU computing.

Bingyi JING

Bingyi Jing is Professor at HKUST and Director of The Center for Statistical Science. His research interests are in      Machine Learning & Data Mining, Network Data Analysis, Financial Econometrics, Bioinformatic, Probability and Statistics. He received his PhD  in Statistics from the University of Sydney. Prof Bingyi Jing has been elected Fellow of the American Statistical Association, Second Class 2015 Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards (Natural Science), Second Class 2015 State Natural Science Award, Second Class State Natural Science Award. He is also the associate editor of Journal of Business & Economic Statistics, Canadian Journal of Statistics, Statistics and Its Interface, Science in China, Journal of Data Analysis and  Statistical Theory and Related Fields.

Wei WANG

Dr.Wang is currently a Redbird Visiting Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, HKUST. Prior to that, He was a Professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering, University of New South Wales, Australia.

His research areas include Databases, Algorithms, and Artificial Intelligence. He has published over 100 research papers in these areas, with a majority of them in prestigious international journal (ACM TODS, VLDB Journal, IEEE TKDE) and conferences (SIGMOD, VLDB, ICDE, WWW, SIGIR, IJCAI, AAAI, ACL).

Qiong Luo is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Her research interests are in big data systems, parallel and distributed systems, and data-intensive applications. Current focus is on data management on modern hardware, GPU acceleration for data analytics, and database support for e-science. Qiong received her Ph.D. in Computer Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2002, her M.S. and B.S. in Computer Sciences from Beijing (Peking) University, China in 1997 and 1992 respectively.

Sung Hun KIM

Sung Kim is an Associate Professor in the Data Science and Analytics Thrust, Information Hub in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). He is working on practical deep learning systems including recommendation systems, neural search (NLP), and source code generation. He was the founding head of Clova AI in Naver/Line and led the 250 people team there. He received the SIGSOFT Distinguished paper awards 4 times, and 10 years most influential paper award from ICME 2008.

Jing TANG 唐靖

Jing Tang is an Assistant Professor at the Data Science and Analytics (DSA) Thrust, Information Hub, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). He received his Ph.D. degree from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in 2018 and his B.Eng. degree from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 2012. Before joining HKUST, he was a Research Assistant Professor and a Senior Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore (NUS). His research interests include big data management and analytics, blockchains, distributed systems, and network economics. He won the Best Paper Award from the IEEE ICNP in 2014 and the Best-in-Session Presentation Award from the IEEE INFOCOM in 2018.

Jia Li 李佳

Jia Li is an Assistant Professor in the Data Science and Analytics Thrust, Information Hub in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). He received Ph.D. in Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2021. He worked as a senior data mining engineer in Tencent from 2014 to 2017. Before that, he got M.S. degree in Computer Science at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and B.S. degree in Information Engineering at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.

Wenjia WANG

Wenjia Wang is an Assistant Professor in the Data Science and Analytics Thrust, Information Hub in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). He received Ph.D. in Operations Research from the School of Industrial & Systems Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, and B.S. in Peking University. His research interests focus on computer experiments, uncertainty quantification, machine learning, nonparametric statistics, and statistical modelling in biology and engineering.

Lei LI 李雷

Dr. Lei Li is an Assistant Professor in the Data Science and Analytics Thrust, Information Hub in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). Dr. Lei Li was an Associate Lecturer and PhD supervisor at Data Science Group, University of Queensland, Australia, and a data scientist at Redback Technologies. He received his Bachelor and Master’s degrees in computer science from Harbin Institute of Technology, China, in 2012 and 2014, and PhD in Computer Science from Data and Knowledge Engineering (DKE) Group in the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, the University of Queensland under Prof. Xiaofang Zhou’s supervision in 2018. He has been working in the area of spatiotemporal data management, route planning in dynamic environment, graph data management, and distributed database systems. He has published actively as the main author in reputed journals and top international conferences including PVLDB, ICDE, TKDE, VLDBJ, DASFAA, WWW and spatial area conferences SIGSPATIAL and MDM. He worked as the PC member of ADC 2019 and ADMA 2019-2020, Publication Chair of ADC 2021, Session Chair of VLDB 2020, invited reviewer of more than 10 venues including TKDE, WWWJ, KAIS, GeoInformatica, TITS, and external reviewer of VLDB, SIGMOD, ICDE, and EDBT.

申请条件

学位要求

需在入学前从受认可的大学或机构获得本科学位；成绩优异，或有至少1年全职/2年兼职的研究生水平工作经验。

英语要求

若申请者1）不以英语为母语，或2）不在以英语为教学语言的院校获得学士/硕士学位，则需满足下列任一英语考试要求：

TOEFL-iBT: 80;

IELTS: Overall score: 6.5 and all sub-score: 5.5
