I am trying to configure jboss to connection to sonicMQ for all logging (i.e. all log4j output will be sent to topics where another java prog will log all entries to file).

While jboss was not connecting to MQ the server started fine - however after configuring the connection (log4j now correctly sends all log messages to the various topics) I get the error:

I am guessing this is something to do with jboss.jar (where the class resides) but the jar file is present in the servers lib directory and so should be found by the server. If I manually add the jar to the classpath Log4j fails to connect to any topics due to class not found errors thrown on other classes in jars that are already on the classpath.
