It's been a few years since I dabbled with Joomla (1.7 was my last live site) so I've forgotten a bunch and I'm sure some things have changed quite a bit since then so pardon my inexperience.
My local (XAMPP Windows, PHP 7.1.1) Joomla (Joomla 3.8.2) installation was installed by Bitnami and I'd like to change the database names, username and PW to better associate them with the site name. I've backed them up with Akeeba Backup and after some reading, I think I know what I need to do but need a sanity check before I try.
If I understand this correctly, I need to change this in ..\htdocs\configuration.php:
public $dbtype = 'mysqli';
public $host = 'localhost:3306';
public $user = 'NEW_DB_USERID';
public $password = 'NEW_DB_PASSWORD';
public $db = 'NEW_DB_NAME';
public $dbprefix = 'jos_';
Not sure I need to do anything with
public $secret = 'xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx';
or do I?
Under x:\xampp\mysql\data, rename the DB folder to 'NEW_DB_NAME'
In the SQL Administrator, create a NEW_DB_USER/NEW_DB_PASSWORD with the proper permissions.
Anything I'm missing?
When I migrate this dev site to my hosting provider, will I need to tweak the public $host = entry?
On localhost
Create a new folder in C:\xampp\htdocs
Copy the backup.jpa and kickstart.php in the new folder
Start xampp
Point your browser at localhost/your-new-folder/kickstart.php
Put the name that you want for the new database in to the database name field in the install screen.
To transfer the site to a Host server
Create a database
Upload the backup.jpa and kickstart.php to the Host server
Point your browser at yourdomain.com/kickstart.php (or yourdomain.com/anotherfolder/kickstart.php if you are not putting it on the site root)
The backup.jpa file has an installer that handles the paths and database prefix in the configuration.php file. Practice installing the backup.jpa file on localhost a few times. So long as you keep the original backup.jpa safe then it doesn't matter if you make a mistake.

Again, pardon my inexperience, but I don't have file called 'backup.jpa'. The only .jpa files I have are 'angie.jpa' and 'angie-joomla.jpa'. My 2 DB backups are .sql files. Would I be safe in assuming one of those would be the DB files to copy to the new site folder/host?

Ah, I see. I can use the Export feature to get the backup.jpa file...

I see the kickstart-transfer.php file and taking a peek inside, I see notes on what it does. I'll likely use the Akeeba Transfer Wizard to go live with this site.
I did manage to get my DB renamed and DB User changed without too much hassle using the method above. Your method sounds much simpler so I may mess with that a bit later this evening, just for giggles...
