I am using the code below:

svmModel<-ksvm(corpus~., data= df.train, kernel = "vanilladot")

svmPred<-predict(svmModel, df.test)

confMatrix<-confusionMatrix(svmPred, df.test$corpus)

I am getting an error when running the confusion matrix but I have all the libraries installed.

But when I look into the structure of the svmPred its data type is a factor and when I check the structure of the corpus it is showing numeric.

This is the following code:

I am using the text classification and using the 20newsgroup. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    • As per my knowledge, df.test$corpus is not a factor but svmPred is a factor.

    You need to use the data passed via dput():

    Adding as.factor() to df.test$corpus on the call to confusionMatrix() made the reported error message disappear:

    confMatrix<-confusionMatrix(svmPred, as.factor(df.test$corpus))

    Also, since the values of the corpus variable in the df.test dataset may be different from those in the df.train dataset, you may also need to make sure that the levels in both df.test$corpus and in df.train$corpus and svmPred are the same.

    You can achieve this by re-defining df.test$corpus (or creating a new variable called e.g. df.test$corpus_factor) as a factor variable with:

    df$corpus_factor = factor(df$corpus, levels=levels(svmPred))

    and then directly running:

    confMatrix<-confusionMatrix(svmPred, df.test$corpus_factor)
