Well, it didn't seem to do anything. It's supposed to magnify a region around the mouse pointer as you move it around if you set it to "follow mouse" mode. You can also pick a window mode where you rubber band a box and that gets zoomed in.
Then I noticed "journalctl -w" was showing:
Code:

I searched on this error message and the finds on google and duckduckgo go to Qt forums, not much help there that's specific to KMag.
I was seeing this occurring on my MSI Bravo laptop, see:
#207 zenbook and msi bravo I think i have to confirm using kmag under Mate. And kmag under KDE/wayland did not work at all.
I cloned the kmag github version, there are recent changes, but I could not compile without installing packages related to kf7, available under rawhide but not installable because of conflicting files. So hopefully it works again in Fedora40, especially if wayland is the only option for KDE in future. I was able to compile the new version, but did not note major differences. However, with original version on Mate I see the ui is somewhat different as expected. There is a sometimes badly visible selection window with title bar and boxes within kmag which can go outside the kmag window but then becomes invisible. You can position and resize it by (ctrl +) arrow keys when invisible.
Schermafdruk op 2024-01-04 09-51-32.png I've just noticed that Kmag isn't necessary in KDE Fedora 39 to do a magnify even in Wayland. I was looking in the KDE system settings -> desktop effects -> Magnifier and it's built in (just use Meta-+ and Meta-- keys, Meta means the windows key).
I'm going to mark this solved since in a way I know a workaround (use the meta keys and check the Magnifier in desktop effects) User Alert System provided by Advanced User Tagging (Lite) - Two-Factor Authentication v1.1.0 (Free) -
