Hi All,
So the title says it all. It takes about 1:45 seconds from powerup to desktop. Plus there is a delay from when I click the mouse to when an action occurs; I have observed the HDD light on for long periods of time also without doing anything.
Below is the system report as outlined by Karl Chen.
Any help to speed this up would be appreciated; this is a new install without much added.
Regards,
mikejp56

You have 2GB of memory installed and 1.79GB available (probably on-board gpu). That is not enough for Cinnamon. Install a lighter weight desktop--Xfce or Mate if you want to get any performance from Mint. If either of those still seem really slow, go looking for a lighter weight distribution--maybe Sparky Linux Xfce or Q4OS kde. Or, install a couple more GB of ram. My opinion only--good luck.
Hello, mikejp56.
For a computer from 2014 with a spinning WD harddisk, the total startup time of 1 min 45 sec for Linux Mint 20.3 Cinnamon is pretty fine.
The only reasonable way of improving the startup time substantially is by replacing the spinning harddisk by an SSD.
Doing so will not only result in a shorter startup time. Disk intensive operations will also be much faster.
Adding more memory would not do any harm either. Less than 4 GB is not really sufficient in 2022 any more.
